Alkali correction

Since WordPress updated itself it’s impossible for me to edit published posts. Good job, tech wizards!

Thanks to Jeffrey K for catching an error in this last post. Alkali isn’t an acid. In fact, it’s an anti-acid, like Alka-Seltzer. Here’s a definition from good old Merriam Webster: ‘a soluble salt obtained from the ashes of plants and consisting largely of potassium or sodium carbonate.’

At any rate, you get alkali from the ashes of plants. It worked to break down the vegetable fibers in the bamboo-and-water mix of the papermaking process.
